Nighttime Construction Requires Full Closures of Portions of Eastbound Dulles Access Highway
Tonight, Friday, Feb. 2 at 10 p.m. until Monday, Feb. 12 at 5 a.m.
Beginning on or about the Friday, Feb. 2, at 10 p.m., drivers will experience full closures of the eastbound Dulles Access Highway (DIAAH) in two consecutive locations while heavy construction work that requires the use of a large crane continues at Innovation Station and then Herndon Station.

On Friday night, Feb. 2, until early Monday morning, Feb. 5, work will take place near Innovation Station (between the Route 28 and Centreville Road overpasses)

On Monday night, Feb. 5, until early Monday morning, Feb. 12, the crane will be moved to a location near the Herndon Station where construction will continue (between the Centreville Road and Fairfax County overpasses).

During the detours, traffic will be diverted from the eastbound DIAAH onto the eastbound Dulles Toll Road (Toll Road), then returned to the DIAAH once past the construction. DIAAH drivers will not pass through any toll booths on the DTR during these detours.  Please refer to the drawings below for more detailed information.

Friday night, Feb. 2 through early Monday morning, Feb. 5, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. (Figure 1):

  • The left lane of the ramp from the eastbound Dulles Greenway to the eastbound Toll Road will be closed.
  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic to Centreville Road will be diverted to the Toll Road at mile marker 0.2. Signage will be in place to direct drivers.
  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic between mile markers 1.8 and 2.2 will be diverted to the left lane of the eastbound Toll Road.
  • Eastbound Toll Road traffic will be restricted to the two right lanes.
  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic will return to the DIAAH at mile marker 2.2, prior to the Centreville Road overpass.
  • The detour will remain in place throughout.

Monday night, Feb. 5  through early Monday morning, Feb. 12, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Each Night (Figure 2 ):

  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic between mile markers 2.7 and 4.0 will be diverted to the left lane of the eastbound Toll Road.
  • Eastbound Toll Road traffic will be restricted to the two right lanes.
  • Eastbound DIAAH traffic will return to the DIAAH at mile marker 4.0, just prior to the Fairfax County Parkway overpass.
  • The detour will be removed each night and the roads returned to full service by 5 a.m. each day.

All work is weather dependent and subject to change.  Locations are subject to change.
Information about additional detours will be forthcoming as the work progresses though until Spring.
Drivers are asked to use caution and pay attention to all signage and barricades. Large, slow-moving vehicles may be exiting and entering the highway at various times.
