REMINDER: Weekend Detours for Pedestrian Bridge Installations
Friday, Sept. 15 at 10 p.m. through Saturday, Sept. 16 at 6 a.m.
Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. through Sunday, Sept. 17 at 6 a.m.
On or about the weekend of Friday, Sept. 15 through Sunday, Sept. 17, detours and lane closures will impact traffic on the westbound Dulles Toll Road (DTR) and Dulles International Airport Access Highway (DIAAH). The detours will allow Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project crews to set pedestrian bridges that will provide access over the westbound highways to the Silver Line's Herndon Metrorail Station. See details below and on the next page.
Information about additional detours will be forthcoming as the work progresses through the upcoming months. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Figure 1:  Traffic on the WB DIAAH will be diverted to the WB DTR near mile marker 8.3.
Friday, Sept. 15, 10 p.m. to Saturday, Sept. 16, 6 a.m.
  • The slip ramp from the westbound DTR to the westbound DIAAH at mile marker 9.0 (2/10 mile past the Beulah Road overpass) will be closed.
  • All westbound DIAAH traffic will be diverted to the westbound DTR via the bus ramp at mile marker 8.3 (See Figure 1).
  • The two left lanes of the westbound DTR will be closed between Beulah Road and Centerville Road.
  • The slip ramp from the westbound DTR to the westbound DIAAH at mile marker 3.3 (1/10 mile past the Monroe/Van Buren Street overpass) will be closed.
  • Stoppages of up to 20 minutes will occur after midnight while equipment is moved.
  • Westbound traffic to the airport will return to the DIAAH via the slip ramp at mile marker 1.8 with no toll payment required (See Figure 2).
Figure 2:  Airport traffic will re-enter the WB DIAAH at mile marker 1.8.

Saturday, Sept. 16, 10 p.m. to Sunday, Sept. 17, 6 a.m.:
  • All westbound traffic on the DTR will exit the highway at the Fairfax County Parkway near mile marker 4.6.
  • The ramp from southbound Fairfax County Parkway to the westbound DTR will be closed.
  • Traffic will be directed via signage and police to take southbound Fairfax County Parkway to Sunrise Valley Drive west, and then take Centreville Road north to return to the westbound DTR (Figure 3 on the next page).
  • The right lane of the westbound DIAAH will be closed.
  • Stoppages of up to 20 minutes on the westbound DTR will occur west of Reston Parkway between midnight and 5 a.m. while equipment is moved.
  • The two left lanes of the westbound DTR will be closed between Wiehle Avenue and Centreville Road.

Figure 3:  The westbound DTR will be detoured to local roads.
Drivers are asked to use caution and pay attention to all police and flagger instructions, signage, and barricades. Large, slow-moving vehicles may be exiting and entering the highways at various times.
